The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State , Abdulkadir Jimoh , on Thursday , paraded 34 suspected criminals , among whom were six men , who allegedly kidnapped Mrs Ekwele Agube , the wife of a judge of the Appeal Court , Justice Ignatius Agube .
Ekwele ’s aide , Mrs Glory Akpama , was killed by the hoodlums during the kidnap last month.
Parading the suspects , the CP said the victim was freed after 15 days in captivity and revealed how the suspects were arrested .
Jimoh stated , “The Intelligence Response Team operatives attached to the Federal Investigation Bureau deployed in the state to assist the Commissioner of Police , Cross River State , arrested six of the notorious kidnappers , including the gang leader , and recovered two locally- made pistols .
“The suspects arrested confessed to kidnapping Mrs Ekwele Agube and many other innocent residents of Cross River State .”
The suspects , who were also said to be cultists, were identified as 30 – year -old Nse Otu Bassey , aka The Lion , who is the gang leader ; Edet Ebe, the boat helmsman, who ferried the victim through the river to the creeks ; Christopher Effaeyo , aka Starlite ; Bassey Effiong , aka Dragon ; Etim Effiong ; and Louis Otu Bassey .
Also paraded were 10 suspected armed robbers , six cultists, three pirates and five murder suspects , among others .
Jimoh said , “I want to reiterate and unequivocally state that the command has strategized and launched an onslaught against cultism , armed robbery, kidnapping and other social vices across the state and will never renege on this no matter whose ox is gored .
“The command will not stop soliciting the support of traditional institutions , religious leaders , youths / community leaders , civil liberty organisations and the political class to join hands with the police to fight this hydra -headed monster that tends to shatter the peace of the state . ” ,,
