Pharmacist donates 5 classroom blocks, library to Anambra school

‘Promises to continually donate and update the library with current textbooks’

A Pharmacist, Emeka Okafor has donated five classroom blocks and a library to the Community Primary School, Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Okafor said the block of classrooms and library wers his contribution to the development of his community, Umueze Amawbia, and in the memory of his late father, Mr Emmanuel Okafor.

He said, “It has always been my dream to  help children who cannot buy the recommended textbooks have access to them because I knew the pain and limitations of studying without recommended textbooks.”

Okafor called on the school management to ensure the children had access to the books, promising to continually donate and update the library with current textbooks.

Earlier, Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh said the gesture was in line with the present administration’s vision of upgrading all community schools to smart schools through the collaborative efforts of Public, Private, Partnership (PPP).

She said, “On assumption of office as the Commissioner for Education, l inherited a community of schools so dilapidated and in dire need of refurbishment.

“The government came up with the ‘adopt a school initiative’ to partner with affluent Anambrians in reclaiming our community schools.”

While commending the benefactor for giving the school a facelift, Chuma-Udeh enjoined all who have the instinct to help humanity to assist government make schools in the state habitable for learning.

“You might not be the richest in your town but you understand what it means to invest in humanity.

“With this act, you have touched nature by the tail and will reap from nature,” she prayed.

Reacting, Headmistress of the school, Lady Anedu Gloria said the gesture from the philanthropist would contribute immensely to the upliftment and development of education in the
