Petitions seized after I installed new Ogbaru market chair – Commissioner

…Says petitions from traders in the market have stopped

The Anambra State Commissioner for Commmerce and Industry, Hon. Obinna Ngonadi on Tuesday said he stopped receiving petitions from traders at Ogbaru Relief (Main) market, immediately he installed Chief Ogbogu Nwanodi as the caretaker committee chairman of the market.

Ngonadi made this disclosure at the chairman’s office during his unscheduled visit to the market as he addressed the market caretaker committee members, market leaders and stakeholders.

He said, “What I want in the market is unity and it is since Ogbogu Nwanodi became the market chairman that I stopped receiving petitions from traders of the market. He is a very humble fellow. Those who were here before him experience crisis everytime.

“I am happy that you people listened to my advice and made use of it. l am happy that you support the State Government. I am sure our money will be complete. It is from this money that government works on our roads.

“Most important thing is not money but welfare of the people, that is the priority of the government that knows what it is doing.”

The commissioner however, condemned trading along the roads without keeping the roads clean and urged the leadership of the market to liaise with the Ogbaru Local Government Council with a view to keeping the environment clean even as he also urged them to be ready for the 2023 general election adding that Government would inform them on modality of the election in no distant time.

Chairman of all lines’ chairmen, Chief Chukwunonye Anaka, while commending the Commissioner for the appointment of the present leadership of the market, led by Nwanodi, said that all crises have been settled.

In his vote of thanks, former chairman of the market, Chief Victor Nwawuzie Akirika, said that the appointment of Nwanodi brought ever lasting peace and security to the market.

“We thank Mr. Commissioner for appointing Ogbogu Nwanodi, as the chairman of the market, since he is put as chairman there is nothing like stealing. He holds them alive and hands over to the police. Those who are fighting the Commissioner are fighting in vain, they are selfish people who do not have the interest of the traders at heart,” he said.

Akirika further to state that Ogbaru Relief market is the best market in the State in terms of peace and advised the Commissioner not to appoint wrong people in the market now that peace has been restored to avoid return of crisis.
