Panic as Nigeria records highest single-day COVID 19 case spike; 381 cases, as toll hits 3526

Less than one week after the federal government ordered total lockdown in some states was eased, Nigeria has recorded an alarming 381 new cases within 24 hours, with Lagos State doubling it’s usual single-day toll.

This is according to the daily infection toll update published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

THE DAILY VENDOR reports that Nigeria has never witnessed this high number of new cases within 24 hours, since the novel virus was discovered in the country.

According to NCDC, Nigeria confirmed a total of 381 fresh cases on Thursday, May 7, bringing the total number of cases confirmed in Nigeria to 3526.

Giving the single-day breakdown by states, the centre revealed that Lagos State accounted for 183 cases, (making it the highest number of cases ever recorded in the state in one-day), Kano State accounted for 55 and Jigawa recorded 44.
