A machine operator on Friday morning sustained fire burns in a diesel tanker explosion in Agulu, Anaocha local government area of Anambra state.
The victim was said to be transloading inflammable content from a fallen diesel laden tanker to another tanker when the incident happened.
A resident of the area who gave his name as Uchenna Ogene told The Daily Vendor Newspaper correspondent that the tanker driver was ascending a hill when the truck suddenly broke down and rolled back into a ditch.
“The tranker was climbing the hill by the Golden Tulip hotel when it suddenly stopped and started rolling back until it fell into the drainage.
“We were lucky it didn’t catch fire even though it’s fully loaded with diesel. It was this morning that it caught fire during the transloading. I suspect it is the pumping machine they were using that caused it, ” he said.
Confirming the incident, State Chief Fire Fighter, Engr. Martin Agbili said the inferno was brought under control by his men who arrived the scene following a distress call.
He said no life was lost, while the victim that sustained burns had been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
He said, “The tanker actually fell yesterday evening but didn’t catch fire until this morning.
“We’ve been around since last night to ensure smooth transload of the content before the fire was ignited by the machine. But thank God we’ve been able to control the situation.
