Onitsha Main Market inaugurates COVID 19 Task Force as Business activities resume

ANAMBRA, Onitsha

The Onitsha main market has inaugurated it’s COVID 19 Task force as part of the state government’s directives to ensure a working enforcement team to monitor and enforce government’s compliance on preventive measures of COVID 19.

THE DAILY VENDOR reports that the Onitsha Main Market has taken the lead by inaugurating its task force prior to the opening of markets today

Addressing the people during the inauguration at Bright street Onitsha, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Wealth Creation and Revenue Mobilization, Honorable Uchenna Okafor commended the efforts of the leadership of the market and cooperation of the traders during the lockdown.

Hon Okafor charged them to enforce all government policy in the market to ensure that traders and their customers wear their face masks, observe social distancing and hand washing practice.

Also speaking, the President General, Anambra state AmalgamatedTraders Association, ASMATA, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, who expressed gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for his support to traders, assured that traders will comply with the directives to ensure that their markets and businesses will not be shut down.

However, the Chairman, Onitsha Main Market Traders Union, Mr. Kenneth Onyeka, expressed dissatisfaction that some people are still not convinced that the virus is real despite all news going around about the disease.

Adding that his leadership will make sure that there will not be any case of COVID 19 in the market.

Some market leaders, including Comrade Chinedu Chukwudebelu, Mr. Gilbert Ofodile and Chief Ikechukwu Okoye expressed happiness and gratitude to the governor for listening to their cry.

Emmanuel Idoko, Messers Amechi Okafor, Henry Onyemaechi equally said they are fully prepared to ensure that nobody enters the market without their personal hand sanitizer and face mask since most of their customers are coming from neighbouring states with index cases.
