One dead, 5 injured as suspected cultists, land grabbers clash in Anambra community

One person was feared dead while five others sustained various degrees of injury during a bloody clash between suspected land grabbers and cultists in Umuogali Oba, Anambra state.

The deceased, simply identified as Chinedu reportedly lost his life in the clash which erupted last Tuesday over alleged forceful acquisition of land.

The Nation gathered that some youths of the community had fleed the area in droves over fear of revenge by the deceased’s gang that has reportedly vowed to make the community uninhabitable.

“There were lots of shootings that rented the air last Tuesday and it continued up to yesterday and the clash is still lingering.

“As the bloody clash ensued, Chinedu was badly injured and taken to the palace of the traditional ruler of Oba who asked the youths to take him to the nearest hospital.

“But he died on the way to the hospital” the source said.

According to the source, the deceased was feared by most residents of the community as he commanded dreaded gang forcefully laying claim to people’s land.

“His death was a big relief to the community. He has been terrorising this community for years now, taking our land and selling without any body asking question,” the source added.

Contacted, President General of the community, Chief Clifford Enendu confirmed the incident but pleaded to get back to this reporter.

“Please call me back later, I am at the Oba Police station over the matter,” he said.
