Ondo Guber: Mimiko And Deputy Reconcile On Ajayi, Collapses APC Unity Forum Into ZLP

Former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, may have reconciled with his former deputy, Alli Olanusi, for the sole purpose of delivering the current Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi, in the October 10, Ondo governorship election.

The DAILY VENDOR recalls that Mr. Mimiko, while in office as governor, had his then enstranged deputy, Mr. Olanusi, impeached before the end of his tenure.

It was gathered at the weekend that Olanusi has concluded plans to dump the Unity Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he champions, in order to deliver the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, who most likely, will contest under the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) platform led by Mimiko.

Mimiko and Olanusi had been in a running battle since the latter’s impeachment, but reports now have it that the two political gladiators had discussions recently patterning to the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Recall that Olanusi was impeached, and replaced by Azees Olubiyo, following his (Olanusi) defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while serving in the PDP government of Mimiko.

While in APC, Olanusi had continued to challenge the leadership of the party, sponsoring several oppositions against Akeredolu during his election in 2016.

He also championed similar actions in the recently concluded gubernatorial primary election of the party, leading the Unity Forum, a faction of the APC in the state, which supported Chief Olusola Oke, during the primary.

But the emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as the standard bearer of the party and Oke’s resolve to back Akeredolu may have led to switch of loyalty to Mimiko and his party, ZLP.

The DAILY VENDOR further gathered that Olanusi’s decision is triggered by his personal hatred for Akeredolu who possesses the APC ticket and his decision to ensure that he leaves office.

It was gathered, also, that the former deputy governor has made arrangements to collapse his Unity Forum structure into supporting Ajayi, as it appears the faction has collapsed.

However, while Oke and his supporters have pitched tent with Governor Akeredolu, Olanusi has decided to support Akeredolu’s deputy.

Meanwhile, there are expectations that Olanusi and his supporters will soon make their intentions public, by formally declaring support for Ajayi and announcing their defection to ZLP.
