Ondo governorship: Akeredolu wins as PDP candidate loses at tribunal

The Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal on Tuesday struck out the case filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede in the October 10, 2020 governorship poll in the state.

Jegede had challenged the election victory of the incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.

The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Abubakar Umar, dismissed the case of the PDP candidate for lacking in merit.

He said that the issues raised in the petition by the PDP candidate are settled issues of internal affairs and management of a political party which the tribunal has no jurisdiction over.

In a sharp reaction to his victory at the election petition tribunal, Gov Akeredolu addressed journalists thanked the tribunal for the judgement and the people of the state for their support.

He urged the PDP candidate to join hands with him in the task of moving Ondo state forward.
