Ondo APC Primary: Presidency Backs Akerodolu, Shuns Tinubu

According to report by Daily Trust, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu may have earned blessings from the presidency ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ondo state.

The report says, not only is Governor Akeredolu favoured, the purported disqualification of Mr Segun Abraham, is an indication that the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been dumped by the presidency. Tinubu is believed to be backing Abraham for the APC ticket as he did in 2016.

Though, unlike in 2016, Tinubu has not firmly pronounced his support for Abraham this time. It was learnt that his circle is gripped with consternation by the disqualification of their preferred candidate.

Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC), screening committee on Friday, 9th July, announced the disqualification of one of the candidates. The name wasn’t announced but sources within the party said it was Abraham.

The sources quoted in the report said the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari in Ondo state earlier this year to commission Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub and Flyover Interchange was a tactical endorsement of Akeredolu.

Apart from the backing from the presidency, ‘Aketi’, as he’s fondly called, is said to also enjoy the support of his colleagues in the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).
