Omor/Umumbo communal crisis: Obiano wades in, raises 10-man c’ttee

Anambra state government has inaugurated a ten-man panel of enquiry over farmlands crises between Omor and Umumbo communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke performed the inauguration on Monday at government house, Awka on behalf of the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to look into the issues that caused the problem.

Omor and Umumbo communities on May 6, had a face-off over farmlands in the area that left several persons dead and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

Okeke charged the committee to uphold integrity in the discharge of their duty.

He further urged them to uncover the remote and immediate causes of the crisis and proffer solutions that will forestall further occurrence.

Responding, chairman of the committee, Prof. Solomon Ekwenze thanked the Governor for finding them worthy of the appointment, promising that his team will come up with substantive solutions that would help tackle the situation within a month.

Members of the panel include; Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor, Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Barr. Vincent Ofumele, Member, House of Representatives, Oyi/Ayamelum Constituency, HRH. Igwe Ben Okeji (Omasi Traditional Ruler).

Others are Chief Paul Odenigbo, Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Rev. Fr. John Manafa, Chief Jude Emengini, Tony Iwoba, Chinedu Aniagbaoso and Pharm. Emma Ude Akpeh.
