Ogun Police arrest five for alleged robbery

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested five men for allegedly robbing a company at Sango, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who identified the suspects as Umar, Muritala Umar, Abbah Yahaya, Wale Fadeyi and Segun Olofinmade said they were arrested on September 19.

Oyeyemi said they were apprehended following a distress call received by policemen at the Sango division at about 12:30 am on September 19.

The police were informed that a group of about 10 robbers, armed with cutlasses had forcefully gained entrance into Balita Company, carting away motor engines being sold by the company.

Upon the distress call, the DPO of the Sango division, SP Saleh Dahiru, was said to have mobilized his men to the area.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums, who came with a Mitsubishi Canter bus with registration number LSR 414 YF took to their heels, but they were chased and five amongst them were apprehended while others escaped,” Oyeyemi said.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that “the robbery was masterminded by the former Chief Security Officer of the company who was relieved of his duty about three months ago.”

The said former CSO, Oyeyemi said, is presently on the run, adding that the Mitsubishi Canter bus loaded with 10 motor engines and cutlasses had been recovered.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the case be transferred to State CIID for discreet investigation, ordering a manhunt for the fleeing former CSO.
