Nzuko Ora Nnewi women wing moves for cultural reawakening

By: Ifeoma Ejiofor

In a bid to ensure the reawakening of the cherished Igbo cultural values and traditions, the Nzuko Ora Nnewi women wing has embarked on an excursion to the palace of Akajiofor lgboland Chief Okoye Azuzu Ezeoba in Nri, Njikoja Local Goverment Area of Anambra State.

The women group was led by the Presiden General (PG) Mrs Peace Ifeoma Udeogu who is also the PG of Umudim-Nnewi.

Mrs Udeogu while speaking with journalists during the visit noted that many things are going wrong in the society today because some of the cultural values that helped maintain stability and equilibrium have been relegated to the background.

She said as matter of fact that the purpose of visiting the places of interest that are rich in cultural and traditional antiquities is revive interest in the culture and tradition of Ndigbo.

The President General of Nzuko Ora Nnewi women wing pointed out that a good understanding of cultural values and traditions would help enshrine peace and harmony in troubled homes.

Mrs Udeogu said that the women group apart from visiting the ancient town of Nri would also embark on excursion to other places of interest in and outside Anambra State just to ensure that women are not found wanting in the discharge of God given responsibility at the home front.

“I can say with all sense of responsibility that visiting Nri and other historically important communities will help women to know their roles in home keeping.

“The decay in the society today can be attributed to lack of understanding of cultural values and norms that helped sustained our forebears. They lived their lives properly adapted to their environment but things are no longer the same in the present generation.” She stressed.

She recalled that in the days of old, mothers normally teach their children especially daughters how to be good ambassador of their families so as not to bring shame to them, it is obvious that today reverse is the case.

Mrs Udeogu said emphatically that negligence of the good cultural foundation laid by the people of old is responsible for all the observable atrocious developments in the society at present.

Nze Nwagwu Nnoruka Aniekwe, Ifediomimi Nnewi in his own speech called for assistance for the women group to achieve their mission.

Ifediomimi Nnewi went ahead to say that abandoning of ancient culture for strange and foreign cultures is the major problem confronting the present generation.

He pointed out that people normally go on pilgrimage to foreign lands like lsreal which have similar culture with Ndigbo but said with concern that when it comes to Ndigbo to project their own cultural values and traditions,  then it becomes idolatry.

Ifediomimi said that the only thing that will bring sanity to  Ndigbo is to go back to the root.

In his own comment, Chief Okoye Asuzu Ezeoba  (Akajiofor lgboland) said he was overwhelmed with joy over the visit of Nnewi women noting that it was first of it’s kind.

He praised the leadership of Nzuko Ora Nnewi Women wing for blazing the trail even as he encouraged them to be focused in their mission to find solution to the societal ills.

Akajiofor lgboland at the occasion taught the women group the importance, benefits and usage of kolanuts for mystical purposes.

The Vice President of Nzuko Ora Nnewi Women Wing, the PGs of Otolo-Nnewi, Uruagu-Nnewi and Nnewichi-Nnewi as well as other officials were part of the team that embarked on the excursion.
