The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said yesterday after the weekly State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Hope Uzodimma at Government House, Owerri, the state government had begun the process of opening the school following the NUC’s approval.

He said the meeting also approved the relocation of the Faculty of Engineering of the Imo State University, to its permanent site at Okigwe.

NUC officials had visited the state to ascertain the state’s readiness for the takeoff of the institution.

The commissioner said the council also directed the revocation of the Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) issued to the alleged illegal occupants on Onitsha Road Layout, stressing that the land meant for judges’ residence in Owerri, but illegally acquired by some persons should be retrieved.

According to Emelumba, the council approved the construction of a modern abattoir in Okigwe.

He said the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in conjunction with the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, had commenced testing and treatment of confirmed cases of COVID-19, tuberculosis and other ailments in the 27 councils of the state.
