NPC lacks capacity to conduct census in May – Analyst

…says NPC is yet to take delivery of equipment needed for Census

A public analyst, Chima Christian on Friday said the National Population Commission (NPC) lacked the capacity to conduct Population and Housing census come May 3.

The NPC had fixed the headcount for May 3 to 7, after no fewer than four consecutive times shift.

Christian, in a statement, argued that the commission was yet to take delivery of all needed equipment, conclude recruitment of Adhoc staff, as well as training them.

He further noted that NPC was yet to install needed software on all the acquired hardware, adding that it had not received essential materials, not to talk of onward deployment to Local Government Areas.

He said, “NPC does not have the capacity to conduct census on May 3. They have not taken delivery of all the needed equipment. They have not concluded recruitment of Adhoc staff, let alone training them.

“They have not installed needed software on all the acquired hardware. For an exercise that is to commence in five day’s time, states have not received essential materials, let alone onward deployment to LGAs.

“I’m aware that that NPC now knows that it has no option than postponing this exercise. But there is this immense pressure for to go ahead with the exercise. Without a counterbalance of pressure, enemies of Nigeria may have their way.

“I’m happy that many groups have seen what is about to happen, and are taking action. May Africa’s morning come in our time.”
