Normalcy returns in Anambra warring communities

Normalcy has returned to Odekpe and Allah communities in Anambra state following intervention of the Commissioner of Police, John Abang to the lingering crises.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed who disclosed this in a statement, said Joint Security teams were on ground patrolling the Communities to forestall further breakdown of law and order while investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.

He said the two warring factions were strongly urged to maintain peace and refrain from other hostlities.

He said, “Today being Sunday 31/5/2020,A peace Committee on the Communal clash between Odekpe and Allah Communities set up by His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano visited the two warring communities in Anambra west LGA of the State for a fact finding mission.

“The committee members comprises of various stakeholders including traditional rulers,Government representatives and Security officials among whom includes His imperial Majesty Dr. N.N Kelly, Igwe Igbariam who is the Committee Chairman.Igwe Anthony Okechukwu(Onyekwere of inona kingdom), Igwe Pius Omachodu of Orumbanasa and His Royal Highness Igwe Joseph C.Ajodu.Others are Hon Chinedu Obidigwe,member Federal House of Representatives, Hon Patrick Udoba,Member Anambra State House of Assembly and Hon Sylvester Orji,Transition Committee Chairman Anambra west LGA.The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Comnand was equally represented by OC Marine Police DSP Ologwu Obasi and representatives of the Army and Navy respectively.

“The Commitee equally sympathise with the victims of the Communal Clash on behalf of His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano and assured them of Government intervention. The Committee further urged Odekpe Community to locate the where about of the Police Officer ASP AKOR UDEH who was missing in the Community while trying to restore peace during the Crisis.

“Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the affected areas and Joint Security teams are on ground patrolling the Communities in order to forestall further breakdown of law and order while investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Jonh B.Abang enjoined Ndi Anambra to always explore legal avenues towards addressing their grievances rather than resorting to violence which could lead to loss of lives and wanton destruction of property in the State.”
