As the Nnewichi election comes up on Saturday, the Nnewichi Integrity Group(NIG) says their community should not be thrown up for the highest bidder.
The spokesperson for the group, Mr Paul Elochukwu who was speaking with journalists insisted that the best material for the position of President General of Nnewichi remains Chief Michael Ibeokonkwo who has distinguished himself as a trust worthy leader during his reign as the PG of Obiofia.
Mr Elochukwu said that his group which is out to ensure justice, fairness and equity in the Nnewichi community election will not allow any under the table kind of arrangement.
The NIG strongman noted that it has come to the attention of the youth that certain elements from other quarters of Nnewi are interested in imposing a wrong candidate on Nnewichi people, a dream he said will never see the light of the day.
“Our community will never be subservient to any quarter of Nnewi, that is why the youths have resolved to support the candidature of Chief Michael Ibeokonkwo physically and spiritually. He is a firm personality who cannot be manipulated by the forces within and without.
“At this point of our existence, we need a leader who will protect Nnewichi and her assets, who will as well continue in the stead of the outgoing PG, Mr CY. Okolo and protect our collective future, interestingly, the only person we can trust with that responsibility is Chief Ibeokonkwo.” He noted.
Elochukwu warned outsiders who are trying to dictate what will happen in Nnewichi and who becomes the PG to stay away as the youths will never allow anyone no matter how affluent the person is to impose a wrong person on them as their PG.
He expressed worry that an election that should ordinarily be brothers’ affair is generating so much heat because of the simple fact that certain individuals who feel that they are stronger than others are trying to manipulate the system for their selfish interests.
