The Ebonyi State Governor Chief David Umahi yesterday said that unless Nigeria adopts the E-voting system of electoral process, desperation, political violence and rigging will persist.
Governor Umahi made the disclosure at the Pa Ngele Oruta township stadium Abakaliki Ebonyi State during the grand finaly of the People’s Democratic Party PDP State Local Government election in the state.
The State Governor urged the National Working Committee NWC of the PDP to take the led by adopting the E-voting system during its primaries and pledge the support of the Governors of the party in the actualization of the program.
Governor Umahi who assured that we would not impose nor anoint any candidate in the 2023 general elections adding that he would allow the will of God to prevail on who governs the state in 2023.
He emphasised the need for politicians in the country to eschew desperation and violence but should always remember the power only comes from God and the will of the people.
The State Governor noted that the Chairmanship and counsellorship candidates of the party emerged through a free and fair primaries and urged them to ensure that the people recieve the needed infrastructural turnaround in the different wards.
He adviced the candidates to ensure the proper utilisation of the local government funds and shun any form of corruption and embazzlement of public funds pointing out that ill-gotten wealth vanishes.
In an address, the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said decried the incessant killings and destruction of public properties during electioneering campaigns and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and the Federal government to adopt the electronic system of voting during election.
Prince Secondus noted that if the Nigeria Bar Association NBA could conduct it’s election using the electronic system of voting, “INEC could still achieve it and save Nigerians from the killings and other election violence witnessed during elections”.
He assured that soonest the party will commence electronic registration of its members adding that he party would support every move towards electronic voting to end electoral violence.
