Nigeria impounds British aircraft, interrogates crew over violations

The Federal Government announced on Sunday that it has impounded an aircraft belonging to a British company for operating passenger flights into Nigeria without approval.

This was made known in a tweet by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

The Minister explained that the UK company, Flair Aviation had the government’s approval for humanitarian operations, but the company was said to have deviated into conducting commercial operations.

He said the aircraft has been impounded and the crew are being interrogated, adding that the company shall be penalized.

Sirika said in the tweet “COVID-19. Flair Aviation, a UK company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably we caught them conducting commercial flights. This is callous! The craft is impounded, crew being interrogated. There shall be maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve”
