National Security: Azubogu calls for data driven Security Infrastructure

…Says Intelligence failed because we cannot really identify our citizens.

Hon Chris Emeka Azubogu made the statement on the floor of the Federal House of Representatives earlier in the week, while contributing on a motion ‘on the need for relevant agencies to bring an end to the spate of organized kidnapping-for-ransome, armed banditry and killings across the country’.

The Lawmaker representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Azubogu was worried that a Country like Nigeria cannot keep a comprehensive database of our citizens and Foriegners who enter through our numerous porous borders to commit crimes.

“It is obvious that the Security architecture and intelligence infrastructure in this Country has failed. Intelligence failed because we dont keep a proper database flag and identify criminals so as to act proactively. A lot of criminals, some of whom are on Interpols most-wanted list come into this country, commit all manner of crimes and go undetected and unarrested because of the inability of our intelligence community to identify and monitor them as they come in “. He said.

The data expert, Engr Azubogu, who has been calling for proper data driven security architecture for the country, stated that you cannot secure any society today without proper and reliable data.

The Anambra born, Federal Lawmaker went on to call for synergy and collaboration among all agencies of the government especially those responsible for monitoring and policing both the entry and exit points of our country. Furthermore he advised on effective information gathering and sharing amongst these Agencies to help drive a new security architecture for the National Security.

While submitting, Azubogu reasoned that there is need for Dialogue on National security.

“Parliamentary Dialogue on National Security should be initiated where all the stakeholders on National Security assemble to proffer ideas and solutions on the way forward towards a secure Nigeria” he concluded.
