The leadership of Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, Federal Polytechnic Oko branch, has honoured four outstanding Individuals including the Rector of the Institution, Engr. Dr Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo (FNSE), for their contributions towards the growth of the education sector in general.
Other beneficiaries of the honour include, the General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi, Former Registrar of the Institution, Mrs Stella Nnenna Njaka and the immediate past chairman of NASU in Anambra state, Comrade Luke Nweke.
The award was presented to the beneficiaries during the Regular Meeting of The Polytechnics and Others Trade Group Council of NASU held on the 18th and 19th of November, 2020 at the School Auditorium of Federal Polytechnic Oko , Anambra state.
The Chairman of NASU, Fed Poly Oko chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Okolie who eulogised the Rector, Engr. Dr. Nwafulugo for her numerous achievements in one year and half in office, commending her leadership style which include, Open door policy, easy access, union friendly and special attention in resolving staff welfare issues as well as improving working conditions and providing adequate learning environment for students.
According to Comrade Okolie, the Rector not only being the first female to hold the position in the institution but stands out in many positive ways including the areas of Conversion/Upgrading of staff, Promotions, Payment of outstanding Earned Allowances, Upgrading of Infrastructure, Human Capital Development , Management and Union Relationship.
The NASU branch boss also thanked the former and first female Registrar of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Mrs Stella Nnenna Njaka who he said created lots of opportunities that saw the promotion of many staff as well as bringing her wealth of experience to bare during her tenure .
“Mrs Njaka is not just the first female Registrar, she was the first person to complete her tenure and bow out as Registrar of the Institution in the last twenty years, she worked hard and made a great impact. “
Comrade Okolie said the leadership of NASU in Oko also found the General Secretary of the Union , Prince Peters A. Adeyemi worthy for the award in recognition of his national, International contributions towards the overall growth and development of not just NASU but the Education sector in general.
Comrade Luke Nweke, the immediate past Chairman of NASU , Anambra State, and one of the Polytechnic Congregation Rep Elect in Council, was also described by the present Executive as a goal getter who piloted the affairs of the Union when it was turbulent but still came out strong and now metamorphosed as the state Council Treasurer of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Anambra State.
In her remark, the Rector Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Engr. Dr. Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo , thanked the leadership of NASU led. by Comrade Emmanuel Okolie for their support and cooperation which has ensured peace and progress in the institution .” my administration has been in office for a year and eight months. From the day I assumed office as the Rector up till now I have been enjoying harmonious working relationship with NASU and other unions on campus”
Engr. Dr. Nwafulugo noted that the award no doubt will spur them to do more even as she encouraged all staff and union members to keep working hard for the overall interest of the nation.
In a remark, the General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters A. Adeyemi commended the leadership of the Union in the Institution and noted that based on the level of developmental strides in the campus under the present Rector of the Institution, she deserves an award by the National Body in due time.
