The rape victim of Indian city Mumbai could not win the battle with death. She breathed her last at the hospital on Saturday. After nearly 33 hours of fighting.
Yesterday morning, she was found in a bloody state inside a vehicle tempo. According to hospital sources, the woman was brutally tortured. A rod was inserted into her private part.
According to police sources, police control room received a call in the early hours of Friday that a man was thrashing a woman on Khairani Road. A police team rushed to the spot to find a woman lying in a pool of blood. The woman was rescued and sent to Rajawari Hospital.
The victim was fighting to survive in the hospital for about 33 hours. The doctors also tried their best to save her. Mumbai’s ‘Nirvaya’ loses the battle of life and fell into the lap of death.
Friday’s incident reminded many of the Nirbhaya rape incident in India’s national capital Delhi in 2012. Nirbhaya was brutally gang-raped in the capital.
Police have however arrested a 45-year-old man named Mohan Chauhan on suspicion of being involved in the Sakinakar incident. He has been charged with rape and attempted murder.
After a preliminary investigation, police believe that more than one miscreant may have been involved in the incident. The accused has been arrested. He was identified and tracked with the help of CCTV footage. Police said the accused did not reveal whether he had raped and brutalized the rape victim.
