Mozambique: Former Health Minister, Martins Helder resigns from Covid-19 Task Force over bad leadership

Former Mozambique health minister, Helder Martins has resigned from the government’s Covid-19 task force.

According to Martins, his resignation came as a result of bad leadership and a lack of consultation.

Martins accused the government of ignoring the task force’s advice and sometimes not asking for its opinion on Covid-19 matters,

A very good example of such accusation was the reopening of bars and casinos which he said led to a rise in virus cases.

While reacting to the situation, Martins said, “I cannot be regarded as an accomplice in such unwise measures.”

The former minister has called the current health minister, Armindo Tiago, who heads the task force, a “politician’’

So far, the government has not responded to the accusations of not heeding the task force’s advice.
