Mkpulummiri: Anambra community promises strokes of cane for drug addicts

“Because of our hard stance against the consumers/dealers of Mkpulummiri, the rate of consumption and dealing has reduced”

Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State has vowed to flog youths and adults who engage in methamphetamine popularly known as mkpulummiri and other hard drugs.

A community leader, Chief Vincent Udobi, dropped the hint while reacting to growing number of youths in Southeast who engage in hard drugs substances.

He explained that canes have been kept for flogging anyone caught dealing in such substances as part of measures to discourage youths from the scourge.

He said, “It is a big crime in our community to deal/consume methamphetamine (Mkpulummiri) and other hard drugs. Canes have been stored for that purpose, including other strict measures like handing over to security operatives when we must have finished with that addict.

“Because of our hard stance against the consumers/dealers, the rate of consumption and dealing has been reduced drastically.

“The after effects of consumption of methamphetamine can lead one to untimely death, madness and behaviours that would make one to be useless in life.

“Youths should engage themselves in something meaningful to keep them busy and earn a living.”

Udobi, a philanthropist, reiterated the need for all to engage in agriculture as means of having food on the table stating that farmers do not go hungry.

“Agriculture is the ultimate thing now, I am also a farmer and I have fish ponds with about 10,000 fishes. I have coco nut trees, snails, among others. There is money in Agriculture, it will give you two times the money you invested in it within a short period.

“There is this palm nut (agricultural produce), that once you cultivate it, within a few time, it matures. So laziness also causes this hard drug addiction”, he hinted.
