Family of the missing secretary of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Okigwe Region, Abia State, Mr. Peter John Ikechukwu said it would consult a deity over the where-abouts of its son, a native of Nsukka, Enugu State.
A search party set up to find his where-abouts, it was gathered was unable to come out with positive result, prompting the family to resolve for consulting with a deity as the only option left.
Addressing newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State, a bosom friend to Ikechukwu, Mr. Igba Jude, said that nobody was sure if he was still alive or dead since after the attack on Ikechukwu and his colleagues by a joint military/police taskforce while in a meeting on 19th July, 2022, in Okigwe.
He said, “Peter John Ikechukwu, came to my house on that fateful day, 19th July, 2022, with IPOB register, as their secretary, Okigwe Region, and told me that he was off for their periodical meeting that normally lasts for about four hours, and I promised him that I would join him later, as an observer.
“One hour after he left for the venue of the meeting that was a stone throw from my house, we started hearing heavy gun shoots in the direction of the meeting and we knew it must be the Nigerian security operatives because they have been frequenting in search of the Secretary, Peter John Ikechukwu and others, to kill for being IPOB members.
“Out of fear we went into hiding and after the shooting, about two were killed and others escaped with bullet wounds, even as five were said to have been arrested. Our own Ikechukwu was not one of the two killed and not among those arrested, from the report we got. The IPOB register he went to the meeting with, was seen torn into pieces, chairs, tables and other items of IPOB damaged beyond recognition.
“It was based on the fact that Ikechukwu has not been seen or heard from, since after the fateful day, that the family, with some close friends, set up a search party to know his where-abouts but it did not yield any position result, prompting the family to resolve at consulting a deity.
“”If he fled for his dear life or he is dead, nobody can tell, all I know is that every arrangement has been concluded to consult a deity to know if Peter John Ikechukwu , is dead or alive. His parents have fallen sick because the promising young man is nowhere to be seen, ” he further affirmed.
“The joint military/police taskforce still frequents to kill more despite the incident of 19th July, 2022, before that attack, Ikechukwu was among those declared wanted by the Nigerian security operatives, which may have put more fear into him.”
