Ministry holds workshop on refugees education, health services in Peshawar

PAKISTAN: A day-long consultative workshop titled “Research, Outreach and Digital Innovation to Strengthen Education and Health Services in Refugee-Hosting Communities” was organized at Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar on Saturday.

The workshop was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Various national and provincial government officers, experts from academia, private sector, UN agencies and NGO’s working on Afghan refugees participated in the workshop.

The aim of the workshop was to understand the challenges in accessibility to education and health for both host and refugee communities and to collect credible knowledge base of vulnerable Afghan refugees and members of host communities for planning.

Doctor Zafar Habib made welcome remarks while Dr,Javed Iqbal presented a brief overview of the project and baseline framework.

Naeem Khan from GIZ, Fakhr-e-Alam from Commissionerate of Afghan Refugees and other government officers, academicians, and experts highlighted the need of updated information on the access of education and health for both host and refugee communities for future planning.

The workshop ended with the way forward for conducting baseline study at District Peshawar, Nowshera and Haripur of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At the end, Dr. Usman Ghani joint director IMSciences thanks the participants for attending the workshop.
