Manhunt for attackers of commuters in Enugu ongoing – Police

…Manhunt personally led by CP Ammani

The Enugu State Police Command said a manhunt is ongoing to arrest hoodlums suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen that attacked commuters along Ugwuogo-Nike/Opi/Nsukka road on Sunday, taking many people hostage.

This is according to a tweet by the command.

Some travellers were attacked along Ugwuogo-Nike/Opi/Nsukka road on Sunday, and an unknown number of them were kidnapped, an incident that has become frequent along that road.

Despite the presence of several police and army checkpoints along the same road, stories of kidnap have become frequent.

A source who did not want his name mentioned alleged that the incident was the handiwork of the notorious Fulani herdsmen.

The command said the rescue operation was personally led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, adding that it is combing the forest to arrest the hoodlums.

While assuring the residents in the state that the Command would not allow kidnapping to fester in the state, it also asked for support from the people in the state.

“Manhunt of the resurgent armed hoodlums alleged to have attacked road users at a point along Ugwuogo-Nike/Opi/Nsukka road is ongoing. CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, personally led operatives to comb forests in the area. We won’t allow this to fester! But we seek your usual support, pls,” it said.
