Man dies while attempting to flee from Police custody in Bengaluru

A 24 years old man whose name was given as Shaktivelu was knocked down and killed by a Sports Utility Vehicle SUV as he allegedly attempted to flee from police custody.

According to KR Puram police spokesperson, today at Bengaluru, the deceased was detained by the KR Puram police for questioning in connection with the death of his wife, but he allegedly escaped from police custody and jumped to death from the skywalk near ITC factory in Dooravani Nagar near KR Puram, Bengaluru-India. 

The deceased has been identified as Shaktivelu, who was arrested following the suicide of his wife due to alleged  physical and mental harassment.  One of the senior police officer told  The Daily Vendor correspondent that around 6am today, Shaktivelu, asked permission to use the washroom and the police let him out of the lock up and allowed him to go to the wash room. 

Taking advantage of the situation he ran out of the police station. The police sounded alert and chased him. While Shaktivelu was running on the skywalk, he reportedly lost control and fell down before a moving SUV ran him over. The police who were chasing him with the help of others rushed him to a near-by hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The KR Puram police have recovered the CCTV footage from a near by area to ascertain the reason for the death and further investigation is on.
