LG poll: Anambra gov aspirant carpets Obiano, seeks FG intervention

A governorship aspirant in Anambra State , Paul Orajiaka , has called for the intervention of the Federal Government and indigenes of the state over the failure to conduct local government elections in the state .

Orajiaka , in a statement , expressed displeasure with the development, which he said had given way to underdevelopment and corruption .

He said , “It is sad that almost one year to the end of his second term in office , Governor Willie Obiano has refused to hold elections in the 21 council areas of Anambra State .

“This illegality by Governor Obiano has not only led to uneven development of the state but also allowed certain individuals to corruptly enrich themselves with funds allocated to the council areas .

“The current caretaker committee members handpicked by Obiano to run the affairs of the council areas are mere stooges in his hand and the lack of tangible development at the grass roots level is reflective of their incapability .”

Orajiaka stated , “I urge the Federal Government and well- meaning indigenes of Anambra State to stand up to Governor Obiano and insist that elections must be conducted in the 21 council areas of the state before the end of this year .”

Meanwhile , a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state , Chief Ugochukwu Okeke , has said the party will reenact the Edo State victory at the 2021 poll in the state .

Okeke said the unity and togetherness among party members were critical to achieve the feat .

The aspirant stated this in Awka while declaring his intention to contest for the office on the party ’s platform , adding that with unity and determination , no political party would beat the PDP in a free and fair poll .

The aspirant , who contested the same seat in 2013 on the same platform , was optimistic about clinching the party ’s ticket in view of his track records .

The PDP Chairman in Anambra State , Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu , advised aspirants to avoid a campaign of calumny , assuring of free , fair and credible primaries.
