Leadership tussle: Stop causing disunity among Anambra women – Commissioner

Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo has warned those causing disunity amongst women in Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area of the State to desist forthwith or face the consequences.

Obinabo also ordered members of Mgbakwu women union to organize fresh election following complaints by some members of the association that the elected executives should step down.

Speaking when the women group brought the matter to her office, Obinabo admonished the women to carry out the election as soon as possible.

She stressed the need for all concerned parties to abide by rules and regulations of the ministry in conducting election, warning that if the election was not properly done, her ministry would have to appoint new leadership for them.

The Women and Social Welfare boss further urged the women not to allow external bodies interfere in their affairs, but rather give each other the needed support in order to produce credible executives for peace and unity in the community.

Earlier, current woman president of Mgbakwu, Lolo Ngozi Nwankwo said their constitution allowed for two term if reelected.

She said she was however surprised when opposition sprung up after her reelection thereby causing division amongst the women.

“My vice president, Mrs Christiana Ezeudu who led the opposition faction was of the opinion that I should not be reelected, but to step down for the person whose turn it is since the leadership position is rotational amongst the villages in their communities,” she said.

Mgbakwu women had earlier carried out peaceful protest at the ministry of Women and Social Welfare but was received by Director of the Ministry on behalf of the Commissioner.
