Lawmaker worried over misinterpretation of Tribunal judgement

The Federal House member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Constituency, Hon Lady Gwacham Maureen Chinwe has decried attitude of certain persons working effortlessly to mislead the public by misinterpretating election tribunal judgement delivered between the Young Progressives Party Candidate, Hon. Uchenna Okafor and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Lady Gwacham in the last general election.

Gwacham, in her petition made available to the press, said after a vivid study of the judgement, the court ruled that the election was fairly won by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) .

She said the court did not order cancellation of any result from the previous elections held in each of the respective wards and polling units but ordered a rerun within a timeframe of 90days in 8 polling units in Umueje Community of Ayamelum local government area.

She urged her supporters, family and well wishers to remain calm, stressing that no form of distraction would deter her from performing her legislative obligations to deliver on her campaign promises.

She said, “While we explore the option of appealing the case, I have no doubt that our supporters in the affected areas are ready and willing to buttress the victory the more.

“I will like to appeal to my overwhelming supporters to be calm as the judgement is still very much in our favour. However, I will like to set the record straight”.

It will be recalled that the defendants in Young Progressive Party(YPP) Hon Uchenna Okafor and People Democratic party (PDP) Candidate, Hon Vincent Ofumelu had earlier taken up the case questioning the victory of the APGA candidate, Hon Lady Gwacham Maureen Chinwe in the just concluded election on to the issue of no election in Umueje, Manipulation Mutilation, Violence etc.

All the accusations were struck out and dismissed on lack of evidence by the court except the issue of no election in Umueje where the  judge asked for supplimentary election within 90days.

Note that All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, scored the total number of 15988 votes while Young Progressive Party YPP scored 14338 in the last concluded election.
