PAKISTAN: Torkham labour union and Naojawanan-e-Qabail on Sunday jointly staged a protesting sit-in at Bacha Khan Chowk in Landikotal against the Torkham border restrictions which have resulted in hundreds of labourers losing their jobs.
Holding black flags in their hands and black taps on their heads and arms the protesters chanted slogans against the hard and fast restriction on Torkham border crossing.
Naojawanan-e-Qabail president Israr Shinwari and Torkham labourers union president Farman Shinwari led the protest.
They chanted slogans to relax the border crossing for labourers who work across the border. Hundreds of labourers, vendors, shopkeepers and business community members participated in the sit-in.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam(Fazl) deputy chief of erstwile Fafa Mufti Muhammad Ijaz Shinwari,Torkham custom clearing agents chairman Mirajuddin Shinwari,Israr Shinwari,Aftab Shinwari,Abdul Salam Shinwari and Farman Shinwari said that hundreds of local labours have lost their jobs due to illogical restrictions imposed on Pak-Afghan border crossing.They said like Ghulam Khan and Kharlachi border points with Afghanistan the government should also relx the Torkham border for local residents especially for dailywagers.
Speakers accused that Frontier Corps and National Logistic Cell employees usully torture labourers.
They set one week deadline and said that authorities not relax the pedestrian movement between Pakistan and Afghanistan they would establish sit-in camp at Torkham zero point to record their protest.
