Jubilation in Anambra communities as UNICEF distributes livelihood support to 840 women

Over 840 women in four communities in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra state have benefited from the livelihood support package of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The benefiting communities included Umueze Anam, Umuenwelum, Ifite Anam and Olumbanasa communities.

The distributed items, namely, rice seedlings, potato stems, groundnut, pepper, water melon seeds, and cucumber was carried out in collaboration with the ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

The community stakeholders were also handed over fully constructed football goal post and volleyball court, Ncho, Footballs, Volleyball ball and  whistle for relaxation.

Speaking during the distributions, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, said the livelihood support was a way of helping the women bounce back from the 2022 flood disaster.

The commissioner, represented by her Director of Child’s department, Mrs Ekene Aniesona appreciated UNICEF for the gesture, calling on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items.

She also urged the community stakeholders to ensure safety of all the gaming facilities and take ownership of them.

Some of the beneficiaries, Messers Uzochukwu Chinwuba from Umueze Anam, Gloria Egbede from Umuenwelum community, Obeche Ekemma from Igwedor quarters of Olumbanasa and Elizabeth Okoye from Ifite Anam all appreciated the state government and UNICEF for remembering them, even as they praised the Commissioner’s doggedness in ensuring the crops were judiciously distributed.
