Pupils at Musa FYM in Bungoma East, Kenya can’t concentrate on their studies due to Jiggers’ invasion. Most of them fail to report to school because jiggers have made them have deformed legs giving them the challenge to walk to school.
Speaking to The Daily Vendor Newspaper correspondent in Kenya, the Deputy Headteacher Mr. Kitangara Mtengo, explained that the school being a public institution faces many challenges, they only have 7 permanent classes which are divided among the total population of 570 which is not enough.
Mr. Kitangara added that they also have two classes made of soil which is used by the ECDE children.
The Deputy Headteacher highlighted that the main cause of jiggers invasion to children is lack of proper hygiene at home, most parents in the area ignore their responsibility of keeping their children clean when they are at home.
He could not stop to express his joy for receiving help from the well-wishers of The Agape Mission of Mercy who visited the school to support those affected by jiggers.
“Would wish to thank the Agape mission of Mercy for helping the school to fight jiggers, most people around have low standards of living they cannot afford even to buy shoes for their children, we are pleased for the good heart the team has done by providing these pupils with shoes,” The Deputy said.
However, Pastor Abel Barasa, the Director of Agape Mission of Mercy, pointed out that as the team they are visiting the community and helping the vulnerable. Its mission is to serve the community and create solutions to problems affecting the community.
