Interior Ministry makes Customs responsible for seizers 

…Following the interior ministry notification, customs was made responsible for passengers’ checking at all border crossings

LANDIKOTAL:Pakistan customs authorities started implementation on the interior federal ministry notification and seized a handsome amount of foreign currency at Torkham border, officials said on Saturday. 

A senior custom official claimed to have foiled several foreign currency smuggling attempts and seized more than dollars 70,000 in the past two months.

Collector custom enforcement Moeenuddin Ahmad Wani said that interior federal ministery had issued directives to all customs authorities to take the charge of passengers’ luggages at all crossing points. He said following the directives of interior federal ministery Pakistan customs enhanced its capabilities of goods’ searching. He said they have deployed extra custom staff at various border points with Afghanistan. He said custom officials posted at Torkham border were provided special trainings and equiped with modern searching equipments and skills. 

Moeenuddin said as per the interior ministry notification custom was made responsible to keep check on passengers’ checking at all border crossings. 

“Custom officials are performing  round the clock duty and foiled several attempts of smuggling from and to Afghanistan”, Wani said. He added that in the past two months they have seized more than US dollars 70,000 being smuggled to Afghanistan. He said strict directives have been issued to all custom staff to curb all kinds of smuggling and bring an ease in import amd export for the traders across the border.

The official said a number of  smugglers have been arrested and cases registered against them.He said in the past one week custom officials recovered 45,000 US dollars at Torkham border and apprehended the smuggers. 

He said the arrested currency smugglers were the members of international money launders’ gangs. He said foreign currency smuggling was severely demaging national economy that also suffer legal currency trade in the country.

He said custom staff was committed to curb all kinds of illegal smuggling especially contrabands and currency.
