A Professor of Jadavpur University has been accused of raping a female student several times with false promises of marriage.
Jadavpur University is a public technical and research institute located in Jadavpur, Kolkata at the Indian State West Bengal.
The Daily Vendor Newspaper learnt that the research student made the explosive allegation against the professor. She has also lodged a written complaint with a local Police Station and also had informed the university authorities about the whole incident. In this context, the university authorities decided to remove the accused professor from his post.
The University registrar told our correspondent on Wednesday that the decision to remove the professor was taken due to serious allegations.
As long as the investigation is going on, the professor will not be able to return to his post. If found guilty, appropriate action will be taken later.
The complainant stated in the statement that the professor of linguistics first befriended her. Later he also proposed her and promised to marry her. With this false promise of marriage, the professor had intercourse with her several times but now he is denying to marry her.
The complainant further said that she came to the notice of the professor soon after she was admitted to the university. The professor used to ask her to call if there was any problem with her studies. That’s how the conversation started to grow. Then they also used to meet outside the class. The relationship between the two continues to deepen.
By believing in the professor, the student gradually became more deeply involved. But she claimed that she did not expect such an outcome.
After filing a Report to the local police station, she had also sent the same copy of the complaint to the linguistics department of Jadavpur University.
According to the university authorities, the police have started an investigation as well as an internal complaint cell on behalf of the university.
Then the decision was announced. Police have filed cases against the accused under sections 417, 36 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. However, no response has been received from the accused professor so far.
