Imo State government approves the forensic audit of Imo state university

The Imo State Government has approved the forensic audit of the imo state university amidst high level of corrupt practices as contained in the report of the visitation panel which undertook a thorough investigation into the university’s activities between the years 2012-2019.

In another development, the state government has approved December 30th, 2020 as the retirement date for the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Mrs. Adaobi Obasi while considering the white paper report of the visitation panel on IMSU which was headed by Prof. Chinedu Nebo.

The approvals was given by the State Executive Council on Wednesday, 16th December, 2020 while insisting that the forensic audit of the university’s activities is timely and necessary and appreciated the efforts of Gov. Hope Uzodimma as the Visitor of the institution in repositioning the university which is not a waste of time and resources.

The state council meeting which was presided over by Gov. Hope Uzodimma mandated that forthwith, admission into the imo state university must be strictly on merit and a committee that will see to admissions will be set up under the leadership of the Registrar of the university. This is to put to check the high level of admission racketeering in the institution as reported by the panel.

Addressing newsmen after the council meeting, the honorable commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba reviewed that the state government has directed that a committee be set up to look into the allocations of hectares of land belonging to the university to developers and undertake a proper accounting of the allocation.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. C.O.C Akaolisa has been directed by council to fish out and handover to the police all those running the Institute for Continuing Education Programme(ICEP) as a different programme of the state university.

On the issue of the Eastern Palm University, Ogboko, council decided to set up a committee with a one week ultimatum to look into the Prof. Jude Njoku’s Visitation Panel Report and make appropriate recommendations to the state government. This is to address and put to rest several controversies and agitations surrounding the ownership of the university amongst many other things.

Council equally considered comprehensive plans to beef up security in and within the state and traffic control that will bring about the security of imo people during this festive season and a free flow of traffic in the major cities of the state.

On the issue of the threat of a second wave of COVID-19, council reinstated the earlier directive of adhering to all covid-19 and the Presidential Task Force(PTF) protocols on COVID-19 as the surest way of being safe.
