The Police Public Relations Officer in Imo State, Sp Ikeokwu Godson Orlando, has distinguished himself beyond measure, following his rare act of kindness, which shows that the Nigerian Police Force is not made up of wicked people, but has some officers that are kind and godly too.
According to Sp Ikeokwu, on the 11th of Apirl 2020, He went to Market Square Supermarket to get some items as demanded by his family, as he waited outside having placed his order, because as at then no one enters the supermarket due to Covid-19 restriction order of the state Government, customers only give staff of the supermarket money to shop for them while they wait outside.
He further disclosed to THE DAILY VENDOR that, a woman who identified herself as Mrs Jennifer Akabuiro, walked up to him , asking for assistance, with her were her twelve (12) years old daughter, Chinenye Akabuiro and her son Chijioke Akabuiro three (3) years old. Adding that, he tried to find out why she took to begging since she is not physically challenged.
The Imo police spokesperson further, stated that, the woman told him that, her husband was a carpenter, but presently paralyzed after falling down from a tree which affected his spinal cord, and that she spent all the money she uses for her minor business while treating her husband.
Adding that, they have seven children in total and none of them is in school due to financial constraint.
Sp Ikeokwu said he was really touched and moved to assist them with food items and small amount of money, while also handing them his complementary card to call him, pointing out that she had no phone, then and he told her to get a phone from anyone close to her and call him so he can pay them a visit.
According to him, the woman called him three weeks later, and as promised, he visited the family with the little he could spare from his “Covid-19 reserve”.
Ikeokwu noted with dismay that, on getting to the house, he almost wept at the condition of the family, the house is dilapidated, they sleep on bare floor and above all no food to eat and one of the child was ill, with no money for drugs, all the children had fully grown hairs, not because they want it that way, but because there is no money to go to the salon for hair cut.
Adding that, he did all he could at least to save the situation momentarily.
He Further stated that, he contacted his family members and friends as a result, two of the children, Favour Akabuiro 15yrs old and Chinenye Akabuiro 12yrs old were taken by two different families and he later bought a small phone for the woman for easy communication between the woman, the two children and their respective guardians.
