Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has said that he got to realize God’s love for him the day he got wedded. 

He described his wife, Nonye as God’s gift and exhibition of love to him, saying he would continue to deeply treasure her and his children.

Speaking during a thanksgiving mass celebrated to mark their 30th wedding anniversary ceremony, Soludo said he would marry his wife over and over again.

The couple renewed their marital vows to each other and exchanged rings during the mass, celebrated by the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke.

Acknowledging the guests who graced the occasion, Soludo identified love and understanding as critical recipe for a successful marriage.

He said, “I know you all have very busy schedules. I know it’s been immense sacrifice on your part to join us for which we deeply appreciate.

“The day I got married was the day I realized that God loves me. I deeply treasure my wife and my wonderful children.

“This celebration has become an annual routine for the family to celebrate God’s abundant grace and mercies.”

Earlier in a homily, Bishop of Ekwulobia Catholic diocese, Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke asked Christians to be followers of Christ at all times.

He said, “God has given us opportunities to lead the people. But you must win the confidence of people to follow you.

“We should always have the right intentions and at the same time be more concerned about God’s opinion about us.

“We need strength to ignore small criticisms. Share your treasure with others and do not be distracted.

“We need to give example which involves living coherently with the love God had given to us.”

Cardinal Okpalaeke asked the Governor to always work according to his conscience, even though many people will present him with different strategies.

Dignatories that graced the mass and also shared the joyous occasion with the first family of the State included: Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, former Governor Willie Obiano and wife as well as National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Victor Oye.

Others were member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Paschal Agbodike, members of the State Executive Council, among others.

"In any bus-stop we pull up, they will rush to us and say we are not supposed to park there, and forcefully collect thousands of naira from us. "Some of us who refuse to pay will be beaten black and blue for daring them, and that is why we protest for government to provide motor parks for us. "We will continue the protest if nothing is done today to stop the touts and parks provided for us." Reacting, a local vigilante operative who preferred anonymity said he was among those sent to stop the protest but were unable to avoid clash in view of what he termed "intimidating" number of the protesters. "They are not suppose to block the bridge because you have travellers from other parts of the country who ply to and from Onitsha. But we decided to allow them protest to avoid bloody clash," he explained. As at the time of filling this report, no security personnel were seen to assist even as the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC officials that have their Onitsha unit, adjascent to the scene, could not help out, over fear of attack by the protesting drivers
