How Fire fighters averted gas explosion in Anambra

A gas explosion was averted yesterday following a sudden fall of a cooking gas tanker at the check point of the Abagana Police Division in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra state

The tanker which fell at about 8.23pm was said to have some leakages which constituted threat to the residents of the area.

Our correspondent gathered that it was the intervention of the men of the State Fire Service who arrived the scene following a distress call that averted the looming danger.

Confirming the incident, State Fire Chief Engr Martin Agbili said the situation was brought under control through dilution of the atmosphere and cooling the temperature with the mixture of chemical foam compound and water.

He said, “At about 2023hrs (8.23pm) of yesterday, Anambra State Fire Service, Awka, Nigeria received a distress call of a fallen Cooking gas tanker at the check point of the Abagana Police Division through Comrade Obitube Nnaemeka.

“Immediate, our Firefighters and fire truck were deployed to the incident scene.

“The fallen tanker had some leakages but we are still diluting the atmosphere and cooling the temperature with the mixture of chemical foam compound and water.

“Even at this morning, we are still at the scene for the protection of the lives and properties of Ndi Anambra.

“At the moment, motorists are advised to take alternative routes to the destination.”
