Harvest of road crashes in Anambra

Barely 48hours after Anambra State recorded six separate road traffic crashes, with one resulting in death of two victims, another road crash has occurred around the Army Barracks in Onitsha.

The DAILY VENDOR recalls that on Sunday, 16 August, the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state confirmed a fatal road traffic crash that involved a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to a popular transport company and two motorcycles. The crash which occurred near Odumodu Junction along Awka-Onitsha Expressway left two victims dead.

Confirming the fresh auto crash to newsmen today, the FRSC spokesman in the state, Kamal Musa said the lone crash involved a yellow coloured Mini bus.

According to Musa, eyewitnesses said the driver was on excessive speed which resulted in loss of control.

He said a total of six persons, including two female adults were involved in the crash.

Adding that no injury or death was recorded.

The statement reads,
“At about 0945hrs , a minor Road Traffic Crash (RTC) which occurred near the army barracks along IRUKA Road involved a yellow mini bus with registration number FGG 35 XS driven by one Mr Kalu Awake Ezeugwu.

“According to eyewitnesses, the driver was on excessive speed resulting total Loss of Control on the part of the driver.

“A total of six people were involved, ( 4 ) male adults and (2) Female adults. Neither injury nor death was recorded. FRSC rescue team from ONITSHA Units are on ground to ensure free flow of traffic while obstruction was being cleared.”
