Group empowers 250 widows, less privileged in Anambra

No fewer than 250 women in Anambra state have been empowered by the United Traders Association in the South East as part of measures to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic

The women, comprising widows, women leaders of the markets and some selected less privileged members were given cash and bags of rice.

President and Founder of the group, Mrs Nkiru Duru who disclosed this during the distribution of the items in Umudioka, Dunikofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, said the exercise was targeted at enhancing the welfare of members and to ensure their relevance in the society.

“We have so far empowered over 250members including widows since the lockdown and have also connected all market women in the south East geopolitical zone.

“By next month we shall be reaching out to you destitute homes at least one per each market in the south East,” he said.

The spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry Ukeh, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube muonso) challenged the association to use the organization to harvest souls for God.

Father Obimma who is also Spiritual Director of the Association urged the women to emulate Christ by living in unity and tolerance as well as being steadfast in their prayer life.
