Geneva Call holds workshop on Intl Humanitarian Law

PESHAWAR: International Rearch Council for Religious Affairs(IRCRA) in collaboration with Geneva Call(GC) held a day-long workshop session for journalists in Khyber Pakhunkhwa capital Peshawar on Monday.

Twenty two senior, journalists, bloggers and editors from Peshawar, Mohmand and Khyber districts of erstwhile FATA participated in the workshop. 

The theme of workshop was to educate journalists about International Humanitarians Law(IHL). It was taught that when IHL could be implemented with its letter and spirit. 

Senior consultant for IRCRA Tehmeed Jan and Geneva Call representative Ahmad Hassan talked about the difference between International Humanitarians Law(IHL) and human rights. 

Shoaib Khan advocate and doctor Mohammad Jan Akhundzada talked about the International humanitarian Law and its principles. 

Advocate Shoaib talked about the IHL origination and it need that why it was constituted decads ago. He said that when and why the International Humanitarian Law was needed to bring a law that guides and principles that should be followed during the conflict or war between two nations. He said women, children and sick people could be treated under the humanitarian law and their human rights should be protected. 

Advocate Shoaib presented the cases of Kalboshan Yadive and Abi Nandan as an example that the indian pilot and spy captured in Pakistan in two different circumstances and both were treated with different laws. 

Dr. Muhammad Jan Akhundzada, who is an Islamic scholar and author of several books, said that not only IHL but Islamic laws also protected rights of prisoners of War.

He said Islam also talk about Jehad and its two conditions. He said International Humanitarians Law and Human rights were the two different laws which could be implemented in two different ocasions. He said Human rights law come in force when human rights were being violated without any war or conflict. Adding, but International Humanitarian Law made to protect basic rights of human beings during war and conflict.

Akhundzada said it was totally wrong that every thing is fair in war. He said each government should abide by the International Humanitarian Law when they confront with any other counterpart. He said the holy prophet(PBUH) also defined the rules of Jehad(war) and told his followers how to treat opponents when captured alive.
