Frank de Boer replaces Koeman as Netherlands Coach

Frank de Boer has been appointed as the new Netherlands coach.

This was announced yesterday by the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB).

Frank de Boer, won about 112 caps and also played at two World Cups for his country.

The 50-year-old replaced Ronald Koeman, who left last month as Netherlands national team coach to take over as Barcelona coach.

Frank De Boer, who also played for Barcelona, won a record-breaking four successive Dutch league titles as coach of Ajax Amsterdam between 2011 and 2014.

His three subsequent jobs outside the Netherlands was quite disappointing. In 2016, he was fired by Inter Milan after just 85 days in charge, and then next year lasted just 10 weeks at Crystal Palace.

De Boer’s last position was at Atlanta United in Major League Soccer where he led the club to cup success before leaving in July after taking charge for 18 months.

In his new job, De Boer is expected to take the team on a friendly match against Mexico and two Nations League games early next month.

The Netherlands will host the Mexicans in Amsterdam on October 7 before travelling to Bosnia on October 11 and Italy on October 14.

Frank de Boer, signed a two-year deal that sees him taking the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
