Foundation Tests 300 For COVID-19, Tuberculosis In Imo

KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation (KNCV) has tested at least 300 Imo State residents for tuberculosis and COVID- 19. The programme being backed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Imo State Government is expected to last for two months.

The testing, which will be carried out in the 27 local government areas of the state, was declared open at the Imo Specialist Hospital, Owerri, by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Damaris Osunkwo, who represented Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Uzodimma said: “We want to make sure that Imo State is COVID-19- free. We want to also test for hypertension, diabetes, malaria, among others.”

Speaking to newsmen at the weekend, the Imo State Senior Programme Officer of KNCV, Dr. Golibe Ugochukwu, said that three councils– Owerri West, Njaba and Oru East –had been covered.

But he did not disclose the number of people that tested negative or positive. The Director of the foundation, Dr. Bertrand Odume, called on residents to embrace the programme.
