The ancient city of Keffi in Nasarawa State in North Central Nigeria was hit by flash floods on Monday where not less than six lives were lost and properties worth millions were destroyed.
According to eye witness account the torrential rain which started at the early hours on Monday 26 July 2021 caused flash floods which overflowed a bridge known as “antau bridge” close to the entrance of Federal Government College Keffi.
The Daily Vendor News gathered that the fence of the school which borders the a stream was pulled down by the ravaging flood .
“Five children who were swimming in the river were washed away ” said Ahmadu Isa who witnessed the incident.
Continuing he said an elderly man also was washed away despite all effort to alert him of the dangers of standing in the flooding water.
Keffi which is the home of Nasarawa State University is just 52km from Abuja
Also hundreds of travellers and pedestrians were stranded on the Keffi Abuja highway as the area where the state orientation camp is located was over flooded.
