Fish out bad eggs among you or risk ban – Obiano tells keke operators

Anambra state Governor Willie Obiano has regretted the increasing cases of crime in the state being perpetuated with tricycles operators popularly known as Keke riders.

Obiano who raised the alarm through the Secretary to the state government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu while interfacing with the operators at Dr Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, urged them to join the ongoing ATMC registration in the state.

He further directed the operators to identify the bad eggs among them or risk being banned by the government.

He said, “The registration will aid easy identification, security reports recieved over the last few weeks, indicate that keke are used to commit crime including kidnap activities, shooting, pilfering, among others, which has increased.

“Governor Obiano is not prepared to jeopardize the security architecture he has succeeded in building over the years, as security should be everybody’s business.

Describing the operators as part of the state, Chukwulobelu warned them against reckless riding which caused traffic gridlock in parts of the state, especially in the evening.

He emphasized that tricyclists were only allowed to operate in the state as a means of transportation.

Former Commissioner for Transport, Mr Uchenna Okafor, announced the cancellation of all monthly dues being paid by the operators, assuring them that their grievances would be probed with a view to addressing them.
