Fire razes shops in Anambra

…as fire chief blames cause of fire to careless handling or selling of petrol around residential homes

No fewer than four shops were on Thursday gutted by fire along St. Peter’s School road, Nkwere, Awka, Anambra State.

The inferno, said to have happened around 10am, was controlled by fire fighters who arrived the scene shortly after they were alerted.

The State Fire Chief, Engr. Martin Agbili confirmed the incident, saying no life was lost in the inferno.

He blamed the cause of inferno to careless handling or selling of petrol around residential homes.

He said, “At about 1003hrs of today 08-12-2022, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of an outbreak at No 17 St. Peter’s School Road, Nkwere, Awka.

“Immediately, we deployed our truck and firefighters to the scene.

“Cause of Inferno: Careless handling of PMS around residential area/selling of petrol around residential homes.

“No life was lost as we battle and fought the inferno to standstill. About four (4) shops were badly affected.

“Always avoid anything which can cause fire outbreak at this season.”
