Finally, Anambra lifts ban on Town Union elections

Anambra state government has announced the lifting of ban on town union elections in the state.

The state had in the build-up to the November 6 Governorship election banned igweship and town union elections.

In a release signed by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Greg. Obi, dated December 1, 2021, and addressed to all the Traditional Rulers, Presidents General and others, communities with pending elections were free to conduct same in line with laid down rules.

The circular read in part, “This is to inform all communities and the general public that the statewide ban on elections of Igwes and town union leadership is hereby lifted effective immediately.

“With the release, communities with pending elections can now go ahead and conduct same in line with laid down rules.”
