FG agreement breach an insult to ASUU –  UNIZIK students

…pleads with FG to consider the demands of ASUU

Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State has flayed the federal government over what it termed default in its agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the chapter.

The students under Student Union Government described the breach of the agreement as an insult to the Union, urging federal government to consider ASUU demands and grant her requests in order to restore the nation’s quality education.

In a statement signed by its President,

Comr. Charles Ijeomah, the students applauded the Union for its struggle for them, assuring its support to the Union

The statement reads, “The Student Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University wishes to stand with ASUU and express deep gratitude and unwavering support to the Union

“On the 14th of February 2022, the Academic Staff Union of Universities embarked on a strike that lasted for 8 months because of the failure of the Federal Government to meet their demands

“After much pleading from the students and other bodies, ASUU finally called off the strike on the 14th day of October 2022 after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government.

“Unfortunately, when the time came to fulfil their part of the deal, the Federal Government defaulted by paying ASUU only half of their monthly salary, this was not only a breach of the agreement, but it was also an insult to the Union.

“It is with this in mind, that the 29th Student Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University stands in solidarity with ASUU.

“We recognize that the struggle is for the students as much as it is for the lecturers and we applaud the Union for the good fight they have been putting up.

“The Student Union Government is also pleading with the Federal Government to please consider the demands of ASUU and grant them their requests so that quality education will be restored to Nigeria.”
